USC Viterbi School of Engineering

Why USC?

The University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering is at the center of USC's efforts to create new paradigms for responding to the most important problems and opportunities of the 21st century. Exciting new technologies being developed in the school provide the foundation for much of our work on a broad spectrum of social and technological issues.

There are so many reasons to attend USC Viterbi School of Engineering - here are just a few:

  • Viterbi School faculty include 8 Presidential Early Career Award winners, 45 recipients of Young Investigator/Early Career Awards, 4 winners of the Shannon Award, and a co-winner of the 2003 Turing Award.

  • With over $170 million in external funding support, USC Viterbi School of Engineering is ranked # 1 in research activity per faculty member by U.S. News and World Report.

  • USC Viterbi School of Engineering is home to the distinguished Information Sciences Institute (ISI), which Business Week called "a star" in its study of international research institutions. ISI is involved in a broad spectrum of information processing research and in the development of advanced computer and communication technologies. It is particularly well known for its work in the areas of intelligent agents, knowledge representation, and natural language processing.

  • Joining the USC Family: The USC alumni network is reputed to be one of the largest most influential and loyal families one will ever be a part of. In his book titled Dig Your Well Before You're Thirsty: The Only Networking Book You'll Ever Need, Harvey MacKay states: "From the day you graduate, the USC network is there for you. In my opinion, the USC alumni network is the tightest, most effective, and most closed to non-initiates of any alumni network in the country."
