Getting Started with DEN

Congratulations on your decision to advance your education through the USC Viterbi School of Engineering's Distance Education Network (DEN).

Please review the following information carefully.  If you have any questions regarding enrollment, please contact us.

If you have reviewed our website and know what discipline you'd like to study and which student category enrollment category best fits your needs, then all you need are instructions on how to get started. Click on the link that pertains to your enrollment status:

Admitted Students (Off-campus) [back to top]

  1. Submit your Graduate Application to the university after reviewing your appropriate department instructions. Note: The application requirements for each department may vary - please be sure to check the department website prior to applying.

  2. If you are admitted to the university, please create a profile from the DEN website. Once your profile has been approved, a computer-generated password will be sent to the e-mail address you provided when creating your profile. Please allow up to 3 business days for this process. You can change the password upon initial log-in.

  3. As an admitted DEN student, you will be required to register for your classes through the university.

Limited Students (Off-campus) [back to top]

  1. Create a profile with DEN.

  2. Once your profile has been approved, a computer-generated password and your 10-digit student ID will be sent to the e-mail address you provided when creating your profile. Please allow up to 3 business days for this process. You can change the password upon initial log-in.

  3. For courses that require D-clearance, the faculty member has the right to decline your participation.

On Campus Students (New to DEN) [back to top]

DEN has made the process as simple as possible. Our system is linked with the university's system.

All you need to do is register for your class through the university - click here.

If the course is available via DEN, we will automatically send a message to your USC e-mail account with your username and password that you will use to log onto the DEN website and view your course. It may take up to one week after registration to receive your username and password. If you do not receive it AFTER seven days, please call DEN Administration at 213-740-4488 or visit Olin Hall of Engineering (OHE) 106.

NOTE: On campus students only have access to viewing archived lectures of DEN courses and do not have access to any other DEN services.
