Why USC? [top]

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering is at the center of USC's efforts to create new paradigms for responding to the most important problems and opportunities of the 21st century. Exciting new technologies being developed in the school provide the foundation for much of our work on a broad spectrum of social and technological issues. There are so many reasons to attend USC Viterbi School of Engineering - here are just a few:

  • USC Viterbi School of Engineering is ranked one of the top ten engineering graduate schools in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

  • With 23 faculty members elected to the National Academy of Engineering, and 40 others who have earned Presidential Early Career, Presidential Young Investigator or NSF/NIH Young Investigator awards, USC Viterbi School of Engineering ranks among the nation's very best in these important metrics of a school's present and future strength.

  • With over $135 million in external funding support, the School is among the nation's highest in volume of research activity.

  • The USC Viterbi School of Engineering is home to the distinguished Information Sciences Institute (ISI), which Business Week called "a star" in its study of international research institutions. ISI is involved in a broad spectrum of information processing research and in the development of advanced computer and communication technologies. ISI is the birthplace of key Internet technologies, including the Domain Name System (DNS) and (with other centers) the TCP/IP protocols. ISI co-developed the Globus Grid computing architecture. Its MOSIS chip brokerage was instrumental in industrial development of numerous widely used chips.

  • The USC Viterbi School of Engineering also housed the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), the only National Science Foundation-founded Engineering research center for multimedia and internet technology.

  • USC was selected by Homeland Security to create the nation's first university center for the combat of terrorism. The new Homeland Security Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events will help focus the nation's intellectual resources on both the means and targets of terrorism, developing new tools for planning responses to a variety of threats that include explosives, chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological weapons, and cyber attacks.

  • Joining the USC Family: The USC alumni network is reputed to be one of the largest most influential and loyal families one will ever be a part of. According to his most recent book titled "Dig your Well Before You're Thirsty: The only networking book you'll ever need," Harvey MacKay states: "I don't know if they take a blood oath to help, hire, mentor, and generally take care of each other, but they act as if they did. From the day you graduate, the USC network is there for you. In my opinion, the USC alumni network is the tightest, most effective, and most closed to non-initiates of any alumni network in the country."

Enrollment Options [top]

Delphi employees have two enrollment options: Admitted and Limited.

ADMITTED STUDENTS

Admitted students have formally applied for admission and have been accepted to a graduate degree program. DEN classes receive regular USC graduate degree credit. All course work applied toward a Master of Science degree requires the prior approval of the degree-granting department usually in the form of a study plan. All departmental rules and regulations must be followed.

Applying For Admission -- An application for admission to a graduate program, official transcripts of prior university or college course work, and satisfactory general GRE test scores must be submitted to the USC Office of Admissions. The application fee is $65. Each department and degree program has slightly different requirements for admission. It is strongly advised to consult the department about admission requirements before applying. Department advisors can be found by clicking here. If you would like to be formally "admitted" to the graduate program, click here to view the general graduate requirements and click here to apply for graduate study at USC.

In order to evaluate any application for admission, application materials must be submitted by the deadlines listed:

June 1st Fall admission
Oct 1st Spring admission
April 1st Summer admission

If you are a newly admitted student, you are first required to create a DEN profile. Register for your course(s) every semester through the university through the University's Online Registration.

After one business day, you will be able to view your class link via DEN when you log onto DEN's website with your username and password after you register with the university.

If you have any questions, please contact Sean Elliot at (213) 740-0116, or e-mail studentaffairs@den.usc.edu.

LIMITED STUDENTS

Limited students allow strong degree candidates to begin classes before formal admission. Candidates for limited student enrollment must have a B.S. degree in engineering or a closely related field (such as mathematics or science) from a regionally-accredited institution. They must also have the necessary background for the USC courses they wish to take.

  • Limited student enrollment is not a promise of future admission.
  • Not more than twelve units may be taken as a limited graduate student and later applied for credit toward an advanced degree.
  • Limited students ARE officially enrolled at the University and pay full tuition.
  • Grades earned as a limited student will be considered when applying for formal admission.
  • Individuals who are denied admission to a USC engineering graduate degree program are not eligible take courses as Limited students
