The 28 unit M.S. in Biomedical Engineering degree is designed to be completed in two years or less of full-time study beyond the Bachelor of Science Degree. The M.S. in Biomedical Engineering can be completed without a thesis, requiring coursework only. Students who choose this option may also choose to emphasize in Neuroengineering.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or science
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Satisfactory scores on the general portion of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) with a minimum score of 650 on the quantitative portion and 500 on the verbal portion
- For international students whose first language is not English, in order to be excused from the mandatory International Standard English (ISE) placement exam, applicants must score at least:
- 250 or higher on the computer-based TOEFL
- 600 or higher on the paper-based TOEFL
- 100 or higher on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 20 on each of the four individual sections
A minimum of 28 units is required for the M.S. in Biomedical Engineering degree, in addition to the following:
- A minimum of 28 units of Biomedical Engineering courses
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required for graduation.
Required Core Courses (15 units) BME 513 must be taken before BME 511.

Course Description: Application of control theory to physiological systems; static analysis of closed-loop systems; time-domain analysis of linear control identification methods; nonlinear control.

Course Description: Classification; representation; statistical analysis; orthogonal expansions; least-squares estimation; harmonic analysis; Fourier, Laplace, and Z transforms; the linear system; filtering; modeling and simulation; linear control theory. Prerequisite: departmental approval.
