Downloading Video-Streamed Lectures |
 |
DEN continuously surveys our students to obtain feedback on general student satisfaction and student needs. One of the most popular requests has been to make the video streamed lectures available for downloading. Since most DEN students work full-time and travel for their jobs, DEN made this request a high priority. As of Fall 2005, the lectures are now available for download. NOTE: Internet access is required after initial download for license acquisition. |
|
| Students who do not have high-speed Internet access at home can now download the lectures to their laptops at work for later viewing at home or while traveling. Below are some frequently-asked questions and answers.

- Who can I contact if I need technical help?
After you download the video, the first play will
require a license acquisition. This means an Internet connection is required. After the first play, there will be a
number of free plays available before another license needs to be requested.
License acquisition requires a minimal internet connection. Students can check the number of free plays remaining in Windows Media Player by
going to File > Properties, then by clicking on the License tab for more
information.
This is especially useful for students who travel and may not have an
Internet connection.
2. When will the lectures be available for downloading? [Top]
Videos are usually available for download about an hour after the live class
ends. Streaming webcasts will still be available for all courses.
3. Can I download multiple times on different computers? [Top]
Yes.
4. How long will the videos be stored on the server? [Top]
To ensure academic integrity, the downloaded lectures can be viewed only until the last day of finals. After that, the license expires and access will be denied.
5. How big is the file, and how long will it take to download? [Top]
Download files range in sizes between 200 MB - 800 MB depending on the
length of the class. Click here for approximate download
times.
6. How protected is the content I download?[Top]
DEN encrypts separately captured course videos, usually at much higher resolution quality than the streaming webcasts. The encrypted download requires a license that DEN controls to playback the file.
7. What software do I need to view the downloaded DEN courses?[Top]
8. I like watching the standard streaming webcast. Is that still available?
[Top]
Yes, the standard streaming webcast is available for all courses. Downloading is just an added feature.
