Instructional Equipment
Computer Based Instruction
DEN Instructor computer
A Windows-based PC is available in each studio for your use. Each classroom has projection screens for the on campus students that can display a range of sources including the computer. These computers have Internet connections and networked directories for you to save your presentation files to. DEN's Document Center can post any electronic file you save to these directories, including making PDF conversions for your Smart Board Notebook files.

Computer Specifications:
Windows XP, SP2
Microsoft Office 2003 (See Power Point Guidelines below)
SMART Board version 7
Internet Explorer 6
floppy drive
CD/DVD ROM
250 MB Zip drive

Additional Software
If you require software that is not installed on the DEN studio computer, please provide an installation disk and supporting documentation prior to the start of the semester or at least two days in advance of your class and we can install it for you. We recommend that you or your TA test the software prior to your first use. Any Network Control Supervisor can schedule a time for you.

Your Laptop
All on-air computers MUST be set at a screen resolution no higher than 1024x768 pixels at 60 hertz (We strongly recommend testing it for compatibility before the day you intend to use it). Please note that Internet Connectivity with your notebook may not be available in all rooms. Internet connectivity varies in each studio classroom, so you should check well before you plan on connecting to the Internet via your laptop.

Microsoft Power Point
Since many presentations and instruction is made in Power Point, please either use the following guidelines or download the template by clicking here. Anything difficult to see and read inside the classroom will be that much harder to comprehend when captured and placed online.

SMART Board
One of the most popular instructional tools at DEN is the SMART Boards. These systems allow you to be interactive with the computer display and provides you with an electronic whiteboard. Click here for our SMART Board guidelines.
You can markup Power Point presentations or anything else on the computer screen. SMART Board files can be saved to your class directory on the computers and our Document Center will convert those files to PDF format. SMART Board systems vary in each studio classroom. Most systems are large plasma screen overlays and others in smaller rooms are desktop models. If you are interested in using these systems, it is important that you get training for the system you will be using during your class lectures.
Document Camera
DEN Document Cameras
DEN also accommodates traditional paper and pen lectures by providing writing pads and document cameras. These document cameras vary in each studio classroom. Document cameras allow instructors who utilize a writing intensive teaching style to sit and write comfortably during the class.
Please remember to drop off all your hand written notes to our Document Support Center in OHE 142 for scanning and posting online. If you teach at night, you can also leave notes with the Network Control supervisors in OHE 100.
Other Peripherals
DEN can supply other peripherals for the class as needed. When requesting any peripheral, it is recommended that you do so well in advance. Advance notice gives DEN time to properly secure all resources.

Additional Microphones
While most of our studio classrooms have ceiling microphones, these are often turned off to avoid recording background noise. If you need these microphones activated for class discussions, please let us know ahead of time. Alternatively, you can also request hand held microphones to pass around in class.

Videotapes and Other Media
Please send any videotape or other media you plan to use in your class to Network Control at least two days in advance so it can be quality checked and prepared for on-air broadcast. Please note that poor quality materials may not be suitable for broadcast.
