Introduction
In most classes, students will watch your class via the live
webcast streams and call into the telephone system if they
have a question. Every classroom can take one caller at a
time. DEN's webcasting system for live and archived videos
is available as a standard for every class. However if your
class requires more interactivity options inside and outside
the classroom, then please look at the different areas below.
If you have other ideas for enhancing interactivity for your
class, please share your ideas with us or let us know how
we can help.

Phone
and Web Conferencing
For classes that require or promote heavy student interactivity,
DEN can provide phone and web conferencing. The phone conference
allows multiple students to be on the phone at the same time
engaging in discussion. The Web Conference provides more real
time instructional computer desktop sharing. Web Conferencing
requires that you use the computer as your primary instructional
tool. Remote students see your desktop in high quality and near
real time as compared to the webcasting stream which is always
available. |

Online
Chats and Discussion Boards
Students can also engage in live conversation via online
chats and threaded discussions. You may log onto the chat service
at the desktop PC during class or we can provide a notebook
computer that your TA may use during class to monitor the chat
service for you. The chat and discussion board tools will be
through our online course management system. |

Phone
and Web Conferencing
The same phone and web conference systems used to promote interactive
discussions can also be used for remote DEN student presentations.
For example, DEN students can take control of the web conference
systems and upload and control PowerPoint presentations. Let
our Network Control staff know in advance so that we can properly
train the DEN students and help coordinate their presentations
for your class. |

Online
Group Collaboration
For classes where groups are arranged, several options
exists. You can assign groups in the online course management
system so that they can collaborate with online chats and discussion
boards. If your students need to meet with each other, DEN can
also provide online web conferencing that allows them to share
documents, chat, and even use web cameras and computer based
audio to talk. Please contact the web support group if you need
assistance with any of this, webclass@usc.edu. |

or teaching assistants for enhancing office hours to accommodate
both on campus and remote DEN students. DEN can provide online
virtual office meetings as well as helping set up additional
supplies for current offices. Please contact our web support
group for assistance at webclass@usc.edu |
